Whilst during his early years as an artist Shemi was mostly engaged in sculpting, he later started working with reliefs, developing the "soft painting" technique.
With this technique he first creates a painting, and then layers irregularly shaped pieces of fabrics of varying thicknesses onto it. The fabrics are of different textures and colors, resulting in vibrant compositions of explosive movement. He then proceeded to the designing of reliefs utilizing laser-cut steel, his new field of interest. Shemi has held more than seventy solo shows in the United States, Japan, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Israel; he has achieved an artistic expression that has received international acclaim and acceptance
