This handsome coin silver timepiece is by the National Watch Co., c. 1871. U.S. Grant was president, and Washington D.C. was freshly consolidated by the District of Columbia Organic Act. This watch is grade 61 H.Z. Culver, model 2. Howard Z. Culver was one of the company founders in 1863, and in 1874 they changed the name to Elgin. Its serial number 155048, key-wind and set movement is size 18s and spins on 15 jewels. A key is included. The dial and gold-hinged case are in excellent condition. The beveled crystal has the modest abrasions shown. The production run of this watch was approximately 3300, and it was only their second model. This watch is in good working order and weighs 159.3 grams.
