Antique Homan Silver Plate Covered Chafing Dish
Antique Homan Silver Plate Co. handled round chafing dish, numbered 1859. It features an orchids design around the lid. It is marked "Quadruple Plate, Warranted by Homan Silver Plate Company, 1859, Special Metal" with the H inside a cup, with a hammer behind it, and a star on the base. Homan started in the mid 1800 making Pewter, and around the late 1898 they started to make silver plate items and changed their name to Homan Silver Plate, and around the early 1900's, they again changed their name to Homan Manufacturing Company and went out of business in 1941.
This covered dish has three of four original parts, the base, the trim ring and the lid. It is missing the insert. It has four small dents on the bottom of the dish, as well as tarnish and patina, due to age.
