Bi-color! Orange and pink flashing! 8.90ct Mexican Fire Opal!
Check out this gemstone! You have gorgeous orange opal crystal showing full translucency with a section of frosted crystal. And it's all natural! But that's not all, deep inside the crystal there are natural fractures that have unique refractive qualities, producing brilliant pops of florescent orange and red that coincide with its faceted flashing! The pictures aren't really a good representation of this flashing, and the effect is much stronger in hand. But if you look closely at the pictures, you can see the light reflecting off of the spherical structures in the opal. Opals are made of silica sphere formations as apposed to the crystalline formations of other gemstones. (And you thought you weren't going to learn anything today.) This silica structure is the reason why opals have less density than other gems giving them a fantastic size to weight ratio. So your 8.90 carat weight for this gem translates to a whopping 16.7mm x 13.1mm x 9.1mm! And it's untreated! So you have crystal clear opal, a unique frosted effect, 2 types of flashing, and incredible size. Don't miss this multi-talented collectors gem!
